Out first, then the blow
Attic insulation removal in West Palm Beach.
We do not blow a new blanket over a wet deck, a smell, or fill that has already failed.
A dry top-up is one day. Removal is the day before that. The old material is vacuumed out, the deck is looked at in daylight, and only then do we air-seal and blow to R-38. Burying a stain to “get the R-value done” is how the next owner finds a roof problem under a fresh blanket.
When it comes out
- The deck is wet, stained, or soft.
- The fill smells, or it is loaded with rodent material.
- Old cellulose has slumped into hard piles and the eaves are empty.
- Someone foamed or boarded part of the attic and the rest was left to rot.
Settled yellow batts that are dry do not need to come out. We blow over those. That is most of Belvedere and the western ranches. Historic houses are more often a judgment call at the hatch.
What the planner adds
Removal is its own line, about $1.25 to $2 a square foot on the planner. A 1,800 square foot attic is about $2,250 to $3,600 for the removal, then the blow on top of that. Those are planning ranges from the same math as the West Palm Beach cost page. They are not a bid. A tight hatch, a knee wall, or a long hose run changes the day.
If a roofer still has to fix the leak, we wait. New fiberglass goes down after the deck is dry. We do not put cellulose on a deck that just had a leak.
